Hearty Protein Packed Fall Chili

Often in the fall, I crave a hearty bowl of chili. Perhaps it is because the air is getting colder here in Canada at this time of year, but I find myself craving warm foods.

Packed with protein from the meat and loaded with fiber from the beans, this is a fast meal that freezes quickly too.

The secret ingredient in this chili is cinnamon.

It actually brings out all the flavors of the chili and keeps your guest guessing as to WHY your chili tastes SO GOOD!

Hearty Protein Filled Chili

Serves 6 

chilli

 

 

 

 

 1 lb. extra lean chopped beef, turkey or bison ( organic preferred 

One can of diced tomatoes

One can tomato sauce + 1/2 cup of salsa 

One can of red kidney beans drained

One large  yellow onion, chopped

2 cloves of garlic, chopped

1/2 sm. green pepper, chopped

1 1/2 Tablespoons of chili powder

One teaspoon of ground cumin

Pinch of cinnamon

Brown the meat and onions in a 12-inch skillet and drain before adding all other ingredients. Simmer for 1-2 hours. ( you can also add all of the ingredients to a slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours) 

Serve with a baked potato or with a whole grain gluten free bun for a complete meal!
